  Notes	His uncle Stephanus (Elias) Terblanche owned the farm Melkhoutkraal which formed the basis of what is known today as Knysna and the Knysna Heads. After he passed away his wife Hester Marx sold it to Johann von Lindenbaum and also later got married to him. In 1804 George Rex (a timber merchant and the founder of Knysna) purchased the farm Melkhoutkraal, effectively taking ownership of all the land surrounding the lagoon. In 1825 the town of Knysna was established in after Lord Charles Somerset decided the surrounding forest needed to be exploited to supply the soaring demand for timber.
